A Message from Our Principal
Misty Huffman

SPECIAL BOARD MEETING: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30TH AT 6PM

Our target date for re-opening Toltec Elementary School with a hybrid model is October 19, 2020.  The hybrid model would have in-person instruction for some students while also continuing with online instruction.   We will be using COVID19 benchmark data from Pinal County that is specific to our school district boundary to make this determination.  If at any time the data indicates it is unsafe for in-person instruction, we would return to our current online instruction model.

While we can not say for certain what the data will be, at this time we are gathering families preference to help us determine the type of hybrid model that we would use.  We would not go forward with this plan if our Governing Board does not approve of the plan or if the county data does not indicate it is safe for a hybrid model.  Your decision would be in effect for the second quarter of the school year.  You would have an opportunity to change for the third quarter.

Depending on the number of students returning to campus, schedules may include a shorter instructional day and possibly A/B days.  For in-person instruction, we would have significant safety protocols in place, including: daily temperature checks, meals in class, specials in class, masks required, regular hand washing, playground structure closed, etc.   All students' teacher assignments may change based on numbers as well.

FROM THE TSD GOVERNING BOARD

2020-2021 COVID-19 Pandemic Educational Plan: Responding to Statewide Directives (*See attachment)

Governor Ducey directives received on Thursday, July 23, 2020 required a change in our original plan to offer on-site instruction/learning.

District Plan includes, but is not limited to:

  • 100% online instruction/learning through the first quarter with the possibility of the addition of on-site instruction/learning each quarter if approved by state and county health services to be safe to do so.
  •
  • Monday, August 17, 2020: Student's First Day
  •
  • Instructional Day for both schools: 8:10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
  •
  • Devices will be provided for student home use.
  •
  • Internet connectivity will be provided for those without home internet services.
  •
  • Face coverings will be provided and required.

Student meals (breakfast and lunch) will be prepared for pickup beginning on the first day of school at each school and at nine designated bus stops. (*See attachment)

Due to government directives subject to change, we remain fluid in our planning for adaptation as necessary.

Compliance with government directives is imperative; the safety of our students and staff is paramount.
